True happiness depends on our capacity to cultivate compassion and understanding.
True happiness brings nourishment and healing to ourselves and our loved ones. True happiness lives inside us, not in the outside world - so make the journey inside. - Thich Nhat Hanh - BACKGROUND OF THOUGHT The world and our minds are in a constant change, nothing is ever the same. Experiencing the same thing in a different circumstance may seem completely different.. Why on earth is that so? Why do we always see and experience the world as if we are looking through coloured eyeglasses? Sometimes the spectacles show us a world of joy and happiness. At other times a seemingly similar situation is looked at with anger or irritation. When we are wearing the coloured glasses of anger, we often experience that also the people we encounter are angry. Is it possible that we take off these emotionally loaded glasses and safely look at the world as we really are? The experience of self is often coloured by beliefs. It is as if we have forgotten who we really are and carry with us two kinds of beliefs, our own created personal beliefs and the collective beliefs. They are sort of recorded in the projector of our lives as a movie, which starts to spin when an event or even a single word or expression activates a past memory. The film brings you back to the perceptions and beliefs we have of ourselves. We forget who we really are, behind our beliefs. Symbolically, one can think that we are in fact an unchanging sky behind the clouds. We all experience situations where past experiences are activated - and the cloud darkens in a fraction of a second and then we react to it. The image created by beliefs can also be thought of as a shadow that walks with us and is activated in the same way like a cloud. Often we are not aware of what happens and we may wonder; why are we reacting this way? |
